The Book That Made Me Read.
The assignment that you gave us today, let us have the option of writing about our favorite book. So I pondered about it for a good 10 minutes and discovered that I don't have a favorite book. Although I do have a book that made me want to read. Not just read but actually read and enjoy it. Well the book I picked was The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. I was obsessed with that book in the 5th grade, I couldn't put it down. I couldn't stop thinking about it when I had to put it down. It was the first book that could actually consume me whole and win my heart. I didn't pick the book on my own, no it was assigned for a book competition at my school. In the beginning just looking at the cover made me sick. No one else on my team wanted to read and well the "nose goes" thing kind of happened. I guess what they say is true, don't judge a book by it's cover.
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo 33-57
Okey Dokey. Ok. We start back up on the same day, Friday, December 20th. This time we meet a new character who plays a vital role in this book, Lisbeth Salander. She works for the company Milton Security as a hacker. Although Lisbeth is a very intelligent girl, she has social issues and says very little to those around her. This is made an example of in the book, Larsson writes about her having a "lack of emotional involvement ". She was of 24 years of age but looked as if she could be 14, she was small boned and had very fair skin. She wasn't one to be polite to her colleagues and barely showed up to work.
Armansky, her boss, regretted the day he ever hired Lisbeth. Even though she had proven to be very useful. They later form some what of a friendship. On the 20th Lisbeth had to meet with Armansky and a client for the first the first time. A man by the name of Herr Frode had requested that Lisbeth "dig up" everything she could find about Mikael Blomkvist. So she proceeds to tell everything she can, but while this is going on you notice that Lisbeth some what admires Blomkvist and Surely believes he is innocent.
Right now the story line is still very slow. It's bound to get better though, I mean it was a best seller and the movies where awesome. I really like Lisbeth Salander she has this whole kick butt vibe about her. Even though a lot of tragic things have happened to her she still rises up to fight. Well I'm off to a freak load of homework. Is it bad that I'm pleading for a delay?
Just Because
It just keeps piling on. Some weeks are smooth but others...are horrible. This week is one of those bad ones. It all works out in the end though.Anyways today I went to the bookstore, the Nook is being advertised at Barnes and Noble. I wonder if it's any good, but I have a feeling it will take away from the who vibe you get from reading an actual book on paper. Who knows.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo 1-32
The book starts off on a Friday in November. An eighty-two year old man receives a flower for his birthday, it's not just any flower given on a birthday as one may expect. The flower is one of many sent to him anonymously on his birthday for 40 years. Just a single flower. He calls over a police man that has been following the unknown case for the last 40 years, they discuss the flowers appearance but nothing really happens. At this point the reader has no clue, when it comes to the case about the flower they keep referring to.
In the next chapter we fast forward to Friday, December 20th. A man by the name of Mikael Blomkist has just lost a trial. In 6th months he will be sent to jail for recording false information about a man named Wennerstrom. He will have to serve 3 months. We later discover that Mikael is a journalist of the magazine Millennium. Supposedly the information Mikael had received to tackle Wennerstrom magically disappeared.
Nice, nice. So far not alot of action. I'm enjoying the writing style though. I know whats going to happen but if I didn't at this point I couldn't make any predictions. Yep.

Wow
I can't believe that people are able to catch such amazing moments on a camera. This picture is truly awesome, I was looking through a magazine with my dad when I came across it. Wow.
What-the-Dickens 262-322
It's finally here. The end of What-the-Dickens. What happens? Well I guess you'll have to read on. ( I've picked the picture to set the mood.)
We left What-the-Dickens in a uncomfortable position. Pepper, his friend, had been previously been trapped in a cage by a young man who goes by the name of Gage. She put her "legacy" or whatever you want to call it inWhat-the-Dickens hands. He had to complete two impossible task and return to the base of fairies and sadly tell them of Pepper's loss. He goes off and ends up snatching the old ladies tooth. Heading back as quickly as he could What-the-Dickens is shocked to see how uninterested the clan is in Peppers soon to be death (not a social bunch). However when he displays the tiger tooth that he had received earlier in the book they become very interested in What-the-Dickens. Especially Doctor Ill.
We learn more about Dr. Ill in this chapter, and his cruelness towards others is explained. Dr.Ill decides to appoint What-the-Dickens a new job as tooth Fairy. This greatly upsets our young hero for he feels that Pepper has not received the proper respect and admiration she should of earned. So once again he back talks Dr.Ill and Dr.Ill becomes upset. Old Flossie comes into the room and informs the two that a invasion may be taking place very soon.
The invaders end up being Pepper and Gage. Pepper is severely hurt because of her wings being snagged when Mcavity attacked her. Gage, the young boy had become fond of Pepper in the last few hours he'd gotten to know her, and was very nervous about her well being. He yells at Dr.Ill to fix her. Of course Dr.Ill must oblige since he is the size of a moth compared to Gage. Pepper recovered soon after. What-the-Dickens and Pepper decide to leave the crazy colony once and for all to become a rouge tooth fairies, they live happily ever after.
Did I enjoy this book? Well Sorta, I guess. It wasn't my favorite thing in the world but since I started reading and posting about it I thought, hey what the heck may as well finish it. Tomorrow I'll being writing about another book...I guess. I thought the characters in this book were well developed except sometimes the story would drag on and that's not very entertaining. I'd give it a 2.5 out of 5, but hey who knows someone else might really enjoy it.

Duck and Cover.
A couple of days ago in U.S class we watched this video. For some odd reason I couldn't stop cracking up. Not because of a nuclear attack, that's a serious matter. The way they advertised it was strange. Would ducking and covering actually save you from an explosion? I don't think so. The 50's were an peculiar time.

222-
Last time in they story of What-the-Dickens, Pepper and What-the-Dickens were stuck in a huge mess. After trying to take a tooth from the young boy named Gage (aka the older cousin) Pepper becomes trapped in a cage on his dresser. When What-the-Dickens ask Pepper if he can help in anyway she urges him to leave for his own benefit. She then procceeds to tell him about her unlucky fate. I guess Skibbereens become some sort of a plant looking thing when they die. They can only live in captivity for a short period of time. Well this really upsets What-the-Dickens and he promises Pepper that he will finish her legacy by succeeding in the impossible task. After What-the-Dickens leaves, Gage returns and decides to chat with Pepper. Pepper, however does not feel like talking and barely responds to Gage's questions.
While Pepper is stuck with Gage, What-the-Dickens visits the second impossible task. The name of the person he is supposed to take the tooth from is Lee Gangster. Once he arrives at Lee Gangster's house he is astonished to discover Lee Gangster is no other than the kooky lady from the beginning of the book. She remembers What-the-Dickens voice and greets him warmly until he asks for her tooth. She refuses to hand over the tooth so What-the-Dickens threatens her. What-the-Dickens believes that if he does not snatch up the tooth, Pepper's life with be in even more danger. After harassing the old lady for a good ten mniutes, she calls out to her grandson asking if he can kill the talking bug in her room. Of course the grandson thinks she's crazy and just tells her to go back to sleep.
Well that's all folks. These couple of chapters kind of drag on a little bit too much for my liking. This style of book is different from what I usually read but like by mom always says "you have to broaden your horizons"...nah she really doesn't say that.

155-222
Well I officially hate technology. Why you may ask? Just a few minutes ago (even though it seems like hours) I was typing up a new post when...WHAM, my computer goes ballistic and the page once abundant with words ceases to exist! Oh technology why do you despise me? Anyway lets get back to business and finish this darn thing.
We once again left out little hero with a quest. What-the-Dickens was accompanying Pepper on her journey to redemption. See, What-the-Bozos appearance in fairy land upset the leader Doctor Ill. Dr.Ill decided that he would find pleasure on blaming Pepper for the little incident. He sent her on a impossible task and basically told her not to come back if it was not finished. Pepper accepts the ch allenge and takes off with What-the-Dickens into the sunset.(too much?) Anyways they fly to the boy's house whose name happens to be Gage! Sounds familiar huh? Pepper receives a call telling her that she must complete two missions if she ever wants to show her face in Fairy Land( By the way Fairy Land isn't the real name.) Pepper becomes anxious but is determined to succeed. Later on they finally reach Gabe's house. While there, they discover that a cat must inhabit the household because of a "cat flap" found on the door. This just adds to Pepper's nervousness. Once they reach the boys room Pepper takes action and dives under the pillow as What-the-Dickens holds it up. What-the- Dickens begins to have creepy vibes and looks about the room to discover the infamous Mcavity! Dun Dun Duuuuuuuun....ha ha ok enough of that.
Well lets just say that What-the-Bozo's obsession with Mcavity still dwindled in his little heart. He decided that he could no longer be quiet and called out to his Mcavity who noticed him and immediately leaped up to snatch him. However she Snatched Pepper instead. All the ruckus woke up the sleepy Gage. Gage immediately grabbed Mcavity and scolded her for attacking what he thought at the time was a bug. He later realizes, to his dismay, that it's a mini human (sorta). He decided to keep Pepper as a pet and put her away in a cage on his dresser.
Action packed, huh? I really enjoyed the last couple of chapters because the plot is finally starting to make some sense! I like how Gage the older cousin telling the story ends up to be Mcavity's owner and the one who attacked Pepper. It's really all so bizarre but yes, I am enjoying it.

What-the-Dickens 103 and so on...
If you can recall my last blog entry, we left our little hero with one of his own kind, Pepper. Once Pepper and What-the-Dickens set off to find "home" (whatever that is), What-the-Dickens snatches up the chance to learn more about his people. Basically Skibbereen's may be a social bunch, although they refuse to work together. They have a backwards take on the phrase there are safety in numbers. Pepper ends up leading What-the-Dickens to a tree stump in which she calls home sweet home. When they enter the tree stumps hollowed out inside, another Skiberee named Old Flossie, appears. Now Old Flossie is not so kind to visitors and immediately interrogates What-the-Dickens, accusing him of beong a spy. She leads him to an interrogation room to be assessed (this is where it becomes odd). What-the-Dickens passes the test and Old Flossie congratulates him, but sadly stating it's because of his lack of brains.
Pepper becomes What-the-Dickens tour guide and leads him around the humble abode. After visiting for awhile, What-the-Dickens discovers that the tree stump clan has a leader, Doctor Ill. Yes a odd name for a very odd man. Doctor Ill calls What-the-Dickens down to his office to have a little chat. While there, Doctor Ill ask a series of questions in which What-the-Dickens responds with questions. Doc. Ill becomes royally ticked off and blames What-the-Dickens visit on Pepper. He demands Pepper to perform a certain amount of tasks, if she wants to keep her rank as a tooth fairy. Pepper accepts the challenge. What-the-Dickens future looks a little less kind. Doctor Ill tells What-the-Dickens that "leaving" would be the wise thing to do.
Yes...okay. That's where the the whole mess leaves off . Once again I must say that I am really enjoying the book so far. It's odd how the skibbereen display such human characteristics. I'm also pretty sure that Doctor Ill is well...EVIL! Why? Just his name is dreadful, Ill!! Who wants to be named after sickness ? Not I.
The Black Keys
Great band, recently my cousin was able to get tickets to see them. I was feeling pretty jealous after I heard that.

What-the-Dickens pgs 55-102
( This picture at first is very alarming, but it's interesting looking.)
Well, last time we left our beloved hero, What-the-Dickens was snatched up by some kind of bird. We later find out that it was a Grisset, a crazy, frazzled and clumsy bird. The Grisset was planning to use What-the-Dickens for her children's next meal. Once he arrives in the nest though, the baby birds refuse to eat him and the "Mama Grisset" allows What-the-Dickens to become one of her young. After a couple days in the nest What-the-Dickens ventures off once again to look for MCavity. He ends up at a zoo, while there he hears a obnoxious roaring occurring over and over again. He finally decides to investigate and discovers a giant tiger which he calls "Mcavity's cousin". He finds out later though, that the cat's name is Marahjah. The tiger's reason for complaining has to do with the fact that he has a horrible tooth ache. What-the-Dickens decides to inspect the tigers mouth and then pulls out the tooth that is causing the tiger so much pain. After doing so he decides that the tigers tooth would make a excellent present for MCavity. Flying off once again to search for Mcavity, What-the-Dickens comes across a chimney in which he can reluctantly rest on. While on the chimney he stumbles into a bedroom of a elderly women. He observes the room and finds a glass with false teeth floating within. The false teeth fascinate him, barely able to hold it in What-the-Dickens as if he may take the false teeth. Startled, the old lady wakes up and ask if god is talking to her, she refuses to give What-the-Dickens the teeth in fear he would end her life (weird, huh?). She starts babbling on about her old age and the difficulty's that occur with it. The old women puts on her glasses, finally able to see What-the-Dickens she decides to catch him. Caught off guard, What-the-Dickens becomes entrapped in the false teeth glass when the "old crone" flips the glass over on him. She tells him of her plans involving her catch, such as escaping death, luring her family into visiting and making him her pet .Eventuality What-the-Dickens is able to escape the old ladies room and goes off into fresh air. The water however had made his wings damp so he had to take shelter in a bakery window.
Once he awakes, it's dark out, but that doesn't stop him from roaming around. He finds another window open and decides to once more "investigate" the inside. While inside he finds a little girl resting in her bedroom. He looks about the place for awhile until he is startled by a voice. As he turns around he is shocked to discover one of his own. Her name is Pepper and is first pictured as feisty and rude. However that is not the case, she had assumed that What-the-Dickens was a spy from another skibberee tribe. After talking to him for awhile she decides that he's too "dim" to be a spy and invites him to her house.
Walla. Finished! Nice, okay that's where we leave off. I think the book has a cute little charm to it and I am enjoying it. The writing's decent so it definitely doesn't drag on and on...and on. Oh and today I just happened to discover that post do not delete... if you lose your progress haha. Nice.

What-the-Dickens.
The book I'm currently reading is called "What-the-Dickens". The book has been on my shelf for awhile, however, I haven't had a huge interest in it until recently when my Aunt Cathi, gave me well... "What-the-Dickens" again. I wasn't keen on the thought having a repeat book, but I took it as a sign that I might as well go on and read it. The book was written by Gregory Maguire, famous author of the well known book and later on musical "Wicked".
The book starts off on a stormy night in the Ormsby house. Dinah , Zeke and their little sister had just recently said goodbye to their parents, who left because of a medical emergency. Well just a day or two later, their cousin Gage shows up to take care of them. Everything seems quite alright until a hurricane takes place, food becomes scarce and the electricity goes out. Once this happens Dinah assumes that the world must be ending. To comfort the children, Gage decides to tell a story, which he claims to be true.
The tale is about a young tooth fairy, also know a skibberee that was born in a tuna fish can, beside a stream. The Skibberee wonders where he is, who he is and how it happened . However later on his thoughts are disrupted when a cat named Mcavity comes meandering about. Being the only living thing that the skibberee has ever seen he automatically assumes Mcavity must be his mother, he shouts out to her as if a greeting. Mcavity hears him and also mistakens him as a talking piece of taking tuna, he starts to pursue him. Just in the knick of time Mcaivty's owner shows up scolding her "What the dickens--?"..."uggh. Is that a mouse? Mcavity! You beast. Up to your old tricks." The owner scoops up the very disappointed Mcavity and walks off.
The poor skibberee sits there and ponders over his first taste of words. He decides that in honor of Mcavity his name would be no other than, What-the-Dickens! What-the-Dickens decides that he will go on a Quest for Mcavity, bearing presents in hope that she will make him her pet. However before he is able to do so a bird swoops down and snatches him.
Wow, so that's where the book leaves us. So far so good, I'm actually enjoying it! I can't decide what kind of fiction this would be called...pop fiction? Anyway I'm pretty happy that I finished this blog entry, because I deleted it the first time around, smooth move.
